How to understand that it’s time to replace the heating element?

Modern dishwashers are equipped with an electronic self-diagnosis system. In the event of a breakdown of an element, the system generates an error with a specific digital or alphabetic code. In some cases, there are problems with heating the water, but the system does not produce any errors. This is where you have to turn on your head, not leave the problem unresolved and begin to find out what could be the reason.

To start, do the prevention:

  • Turn the machine upside down.
  • Remove the back wall (if the device is not built-in) or disconnect the bottom panel (if the model is built-in). Remove the bottom panel like this: disconnect the drain pipe from the heating block, and then pull the entire panel towards you, and it will be removed.

Important! There is no need to pull out the panel to the end, and you will not be able to do this without unscrewing the fasteners inside the device body. Your task is to get to the temperature sensor, which is located just at the top of the heating block.

  • Check the sensor visually and with a multimeter. Pay particular attention to wiring and contacts. No traces of burning and reflow.
  • If the sensor is serviceable, and there are no traces of burning, you will have to disassemble the machine further, and at the same time think about replacing or repairing the heater in the Bosch dishwasher.

What will be needed to replace the heater?

Each of the elements, including the heater, of the dishwasher changes entirely. It is very difficult to repair them, and you can even say it is impossible, especially on your own without the involvement of a master. Therefore, it is most reasonable to remove and discard a part that has broken, and install a new one. If you adhere to this principle of work, then you will not need any specific tools, but, nevertheless, you need to prepare the following:

  • Multimeter.
  • Two screwdrivers - Phillips and flat.
  • Awl.
  • Pliers.

Of the components, you will need a complete heating unit and, possibly, a separate temperature sensor. On Bosch dishwashers, the temperature sensor is removable.

Important! Do not rush and buy accessories. Masters advise first to be 100% sure of the malfunction of the heater, and only then replace it. The fact is that on the devices of this company, the heating elements cannot be changed separately from the heating unit.

The heating block consists of a plastic housing with outputs for sensors and bends for pipes:

  • If there are no fasteners on the plastic case that would indicate that it can be disassembled, it means that pulling out and replacing the heater will not work separately.
  • If the heating unit is collapsible, then you can remove it and install a new one in its place.
