The final point in the repair of the bathroom is the installation of the toilet. Installing modern plumbing is quite simple, at least much easier than Soviet-style appliances. Therefore, you can install the toilet and yourself, without resorting to the help of a master plumber. This article is a detailed instruction for installing floor and pendant plumbing fixtures.

Tools and accessories for work

Before proceeding with the installation of the toilet, you need to prepare the whole set of necessary tools and appliances. You will find it useful:

• Hammer drill. It can be replaced with an impact drill.
• Boer. Select the diameter of the drill so that it fits the size of the mounts.
• Tile drill (if the toilet is installed on tile).
• Screwdriver Set.
• Hammer.
• Chisel.
• Adjustable wrench.
• Set of wrenches.
• Knife.
• Spatulas.
• Roulette.
• For marking - a marker or pencil.

Important! When working, do not forget to observe safety precautions. Protect your eyes from dust with special glasses.

In addition, for the correct installation of the toilet you will need such consumables:

• Silicone sealant.
• Metallic adhesive tape.
• Tape for reeling.
• Corrugation.
• Stuffing box.
• Building mixture.
• Dowels - if they are not complete with plumbing.
• Polyethylene.
• Hose to connect the tank to the water supply.

Preparatory work

Before you install a toilet, you need to buy it. You can install new plumbing instead of the old one or perform a redevelopment convenient for you in the bathroom. If the size of the room is very small, then the plumbing kit must be chosen compact.

The release of the toilet may be:

• Vertical.
• Squint.
• Horizontal.

The bowl may have a different shape - visor, funnel or dish-shaped. The drain tank can be mounted on the wall or combined with the toilet base.

To attach the toilet to the floor, as a rule, use 2 or 4 fixing points. Sometimes the device is equipped with special mounting angles.

Important! The type of drain is the most important point. If a remodeling of the sewage supply is not included in your plans, then the type of drain must be chosen as it was before. It is impossible to reliably combine the toilet supply and the sewer drain if they do not fit together.

If you change the toilet not in the process of repair, but in an emergency, choose a tank so that it is identical to the old one. This is a way to save time, effort, money, and nerves too.

Dismantling old plumbing

This operation is among the most time-consuming:

• Disconnect the tank from the water supply.
• Shut off the water supply, drain the water and disconnect the hose from the tank.
• Remove the water tank from the mount.
• Using the horn and adjustable kobchs, unscrew the fastening nuts.

Important! If the fasteners are covered with a layer of salt deposits or rust, moisten them with kerosene or vinegar. Special products are on sale, for example, WD-40 grease. After you process the fastener, deposits become more loose, and the bolts are removed more easily.

• Partially remove the old coating. This applies to old houses where the drain is sealed with cement. Chip the plaster with a chisel in several places. Shake the toilet from side to side so that the flush connection loosens.
• Tilt the toilet bowl to drain the remaining water in it.Now you can disconnect it from the sewer.
• Cover the hole with a wooden cork or use a gag made of rags. This is not an extra precaution. Sewer gases, in addition to an extremely unpleasant odor, are combustible and toxic.

How to install the toilet?

New toilets are sold unassembled. For each of them there is an instruction with a drawing of the toilet bowl and a detailed description of the assembly algorithm.

The build order looks something like this:

• Install a drain mechanism in the tank. In the kit, it comes pre-assembled. It remains only to insert it into the tank and fix it according to the instructions.

Important! Remember to inspect the mechanism for damage.

• Put a rubber washer on the device, insert it into the tank and fix it with a nut. Do not use any tools while doing this operation manually. The plastic nut is easy to damage.
• Attach the tank with a drain mechanism to the toilet. The kit includes a set of fasteners with washers, nuts, seals and bolts.
• Important! Before installing the bolts, be sure to put washers on them. This makes the mount more reliable. After alignment, first attach the sealant to the ends of the fasteners, and then the washer.

Sewer connection

To connect plumbing to a pipe intended for discharge, use:

• Cuffs - eccentric or corrugated.
• Fan pipes.
• Bends.

Important! Regardless of how you connect, you need a sealant.

The cheapest, easiest and most effective way to connect is with a cuff. This method is well established when installing plumbing in hard-to-reach places:

1. Insert the cuff into the sewer, seal the seam.
2. Attach the other end to the release.
3. Having poured a bucket of water into the toilet bowl, check the tightness of the seam.
4. If there is no leak, you can fix the plumbing to the floor. Seal the joint again with sealant.

Joining a toilet through a fan pipe or tap is more reliable, but rather time-consuming. In addition to sealing cuffs, adapters are used.

Water connection

This is the last step. Water is supplied at the top or bottom of the tank. A flexible hose is used to connect to the water supply. One end is connected to the tank, and the other to the water pipe.

Important! Remember to install a faucet between the water pipe and the tank. This is necessary to shut off the water if necessary.

How to put a toilet of various types?

Let's start with the simplest option.

Compact

This is a simple floor construction. Mount it in this order:

• Move the toilet bowl as close to the drain hole as possible. Connect to the sewer using a corrugated pipe.
• To make the pipe easier to put on the outlet, lubricate it from the inside with soapy water or liquid soap. The second end is simply inserted into the sewer.

Important! Position the toilet so that the corrugation does not bend much and there are no creases on it.

• Mark the location on the floor with a marker for drilling holes for the mount.
• Move the toilet to the side and drill holes according to the marking.
• Insert the plastic plugs into the holes, install the toilet bowl, mount the fasteners.

Important! Since a perfectly flat sole of the product is an infrequent phenomenon, it is desirable to lubricate it with a layer of silicone. You can put silicone on the floor, and plumbing placed on top.

Monoblock

This is a one-piece construction that is sold fully assembled. It is not necessary to assemble and adjust the drain mechanism, the fittings are fully adjusted. The technology for installing a monoblock is no different from that already described.

How to install a toilet with a high tank?

The tank is mounted after the toilet structure is connected to the sewer pipe. The drain pipe is connected to the tank with a sleeve after the tank is mounted on the wall.

Suspended structure

Such plumbing is installed during the overhaul, before the start of finishing work. The most crucial moment is the installation of the frame (installation):

• The frame is mounted so that the distance from the drain tank to the floor is about 1 m. Sewerage and water supply must be made in advance.
• The toilet is attached after the frame is fully installed. The optimum distance of the bowl from the floor is 0.4 m. If for some reason this is inconvenient for you, you can adjust the height.
• After installing the installation, they finish the walls and equip a niche. In this case, it is important that in case of an accident access to the tank is provided.
