A good bath in our time is not cheap - for this reason, many owners, in order to save money, come to the decision to restore enamel. This is due to the following reasons:
- Saving money. As mentioned, new plumbing is not cheap, in addition, in this case you will have to spend money on dismantling the old bathroom, transporting plumbing and installing a new one.
- Speed of work. The master restores the bath for about 4 hours, after which after two days it can already be actively used.
- Quality work. The new enamel will last you from 10 to 20 years - it all depends on how carefully you relate to plumbing.
- Wide range of colors. Usually the bath is painted white, however, at the request of the customer, it can be painted in any color by adding color paste to the composition.
- Long-term heat storage ability.
Methods of restoration
There are three types of bath restoration, each of which is effective in its own way:
- Acrylic coating. With its help, a liquid acrylic solution is applied to the surface of the bowl by pouring. In this case, all the bumps will disappear, the bath will not have an unpleasant odor, and it will last about 10 years.
- New enamel layer. This method is the application of special enamel on the surface of the bowl of a bathtub; it is similar to ordinary painting. The advantages of such coverage include low cost.
- Acrylic liner. An acrylic liner is superimposed on the old surface of the bowl, completely repeating its contours. The main advantages of this method: durability, hiding all defects, aesthetics.
Liquid acrylic
When using such material, any bathtub will get its original appearance - it will become perfectly white, and all the irregularities on it disappear without a trace. The composition of such a coating includes the following materials:
- Acrylic.
- Hardener.
- Epoxy resin
- Chemical additives that increase the characteristics of new enamel.
Technology
The technology of liquid bath acrylic restoration takes place in just two stages:
- Preparing the bowl. First of all, the craftsmen grind all visible scratches using sandpaper, then with the help of a grinder they eliminate corrosion and chips. Then all the garbage is removed, the surface of the bowl is degreased with soda.
- Enamelling. The bath bowl is washed with hot water, then a thin layer of the mixture is poured onto the side. Liquid acrylic flows down the walls of the bowl, connects to the bottom of the structure. After this, the voids are also filled with the composition, until the circle closes.
Important! No need to deal with small smudges or influxes - so you only spoil the result. With further drying, the bumps will disappear on their own.
Advantages of such a restoration:
- Quick drying - the bath can be used in just two days.
- There is no glue layer between the bathtub and the acrylic itself - this will make this coating last much longer.
- The coating does not turn yellow and retains heat well.
- Resistance to aggressive chemicals.
- This type of bath restoration can be used, regardless of what the bowl is made of.
Minuses
Liquid acrylic has several disadvantages:
- It is necessary to remove the drain siphon.
- Such a coating completely repeats all the bends of the bath - this may not play into the hands if the bowl has any factory irregularities.
New enamel layer
This type of bath restoration is the oldest - this way the bath was restored in Soviet times, when a new font was not available. This technology is similar to the usual painting of an object. As a rule, such restoration does not last long - from 1 to 5 years.
Technology
Below will be presented the conditions, observing which, you can apply a new enamel layer qualitatively:
- The use of enamel, which is intended exclusively for bathtubs.
Important! Only bath enamels are safe for humans. Others - in contact with warm or hot water emit harmful gas, which is very harmful to human health.
- Treat the bath with acid for further work.
- Quench the acid with alkali. Using this procedure, you will degrease the bowl cover.
- The bath should be treated with solvent.
- The bath should be covered with at least two layers of enamel, ideally four.
- In order for this technology of bath restoration to be successful, the new enamel must be maintained for as long as it is written on the package.
Advantages of this technique:
- This is the cheapest way to restore.
- No need to do the dismantling of the bath.
- You can not remove the drain siphon.
- In this way, you can restore the bath of any metal.
The disadvantages include:
- Gradual yellowing.
- Chips may appear soon.
- This enamel is very sensitive.
- Long time work.
- Long drying of the bowl.
- Enamel can not hide factory marriage. Often even old small scratches are visible.
Acrylic liner
This is the name of the type of bath restoration, when a new plastic trough is inserted inside it, which repeats the shape of the bath bowl. The trough is attached to the bath using special foam, which ensures its snug fit to the bowl.
pros
The advantages of such a restoration include:
- Average life is 15 years.
- Plastic cannot turn yellow.
- The acrylic liner is stronger than other coatings.
- The surface remains perfectly flat.
Minuses
This restoration has several disadvantages:
- Perfect evenness is not always good. Any bathtubs may have irregularities or non-standard sizes that the liner cannot repeat.
- The acrylic liner cannot be placed in an iron bath, as they can bend.
- Need to dismantle the drain siphon.
- Subsequent peeling of sticky foam is possible.
- You can not resort to this technology of restoration of bathtubs if it is mounted in a tile.
