Everyone can feel like an actor, playing performances with dolls. But for a full-fledged performance, in addition to actors, dolls and spectators, you will also need a screen. Of course, at home you can use chairs instead of a screen or pull a rope with a cloth. But if you often stage performances, then a real scene with decorations and a curtain will look much more attractive. You can buy such a partition in a specialized store, but a screen for a puppet theater with your own hands will be quite successful. There are the simplest options - they are suitable for home performances, for them you do not need to do anything on purpose. These are “quick-fix” partitions:
- You can close the hole under the table with a piece of cloth. Tie the corners to the top of one and the second table leg. The makeshift partition is ready! A child can sit on the floor and show his performance, leading the heroes of the tale just above the table.
- You can take an old curtain or sheet, put it on a rope and pull it in the doorway. At the top in the center you need to make a rectangular cutout. He must be at such a height that the puppeteer standing behind him is not visible. Scenery can be attached to such a screen with clothespins that can be masked with tinsel cut from paper.
Important! On a rope you can hang paper clouds, the sun, a month, stars.
- The partition can be made from an ordinary ironing board by hanging it with a cloth.
We make a floor screen from cardboard boxes
Of course, all these options for the home may work, but they are hardly suitable for staging in kindergartens or schools. Tu needs a more solid option. You can make a floor screen for the puppet theater with your own hands in cardboard kindergarten. It does not require large expenses, lightweight, convenient to use.
The main thing is to take into account the size of the room. So let's get started:
- The height of the screen must be determined based on which actors will perform and which dolls will be used for the performance.
Important! Two-thirds of the doll should be above the partition and the actors should not be visible.
- Cut a sheet of cardboard for the front side of the partition. For strength, we glue corrugated cardboard in several layers. We glue it all with PVA glue and press it. You can expand the glued partition and stamp it with your feet. Leave to dry for a day.
- In the same way we produce sidewalls and sides.
- In places of bends, the cardboard should be single-layer.
- After all parts have dried, we proceed to assembly. The joints are first glued together, and then stitched with an awl and lace. Make large stitches, spaced apart, as closely spaced stitches can break through cardboard.
- Sashes need to be pasted over with decorative paper on both sides. You can also use wallpaper. Try not to use bright colors so that they do not distract the viewers.
- We glue the back wall with white paper, trim the edge of the window with wallpaper borders.
Everything is ready! Now you can check the screen for stability.

There is another way to make a floor screen for the theater with your own hands. This time, a thin sheet of fiberboard will be used as the frame. Such a partition will be more durable and stable than cardboard:
- Draw a sheet of fiberboard and cut out the necessary details.
Important! If there is no jigsaw at hand, this can be done with a saw or a kitchen knife.
- Work the ends of the parts lightly with sandpaper, and then drill small holes for connecting with ribbons.
- All details are best painted white.
Important! It is better to take environmentally friendly water-based paint for this.
- Now you need to pick up a bright fabric for the cover. It is better to make it removable so that it can be washed.
Important! It is better to take an opaque synthetic, like polyesterso that she does not crumple, and the actors do not shine through during the performance.
- The cover consists of a roof and pockets. Use a ready-made design as a template. Put it on a cloth, circle it with chalk. Remember to add a few centimeters to the seams. Carefully cut along the contour.
- The roof will be in the form of a cap. To do this, fold the fabric in a triangle, cut the edges with teeth, and stitch the foam rubber from the inside. It will give volume to the details.
- Sew Velcro in the center of the roof. With its help it will be possible to change the design of the roof.
- The lower part of the screen consists of three pockets interconnected. You can decorate these details with beautiful flowers, bows, buttons, in general, everything that is at hand.
DIY desktop screen
For a finger theater, a desktop screen is more suitable. How to make a do-it-yourself desktop screen for a puppet theater? It can be made from sheets of chipboard or from good cardboard.
Important! For this case, you need to purchase thick cardboard in the stationery store. For the partition, you need to take two pieces and glue them together for greater density.
Operating procedure:
- Draw a rectangle from the selected material. In the middle you need to cut a window. This can be done with a jigsaw or knife.
- For the side flaps, you can take the remnants of the board, laminate or the main material. Cut two pieces of equal width and height.
- Process the ends of the chipboard parts with sandpaper. Using a drill, make holes for connecting parts to each other.
- We paint all the details in white. Leave to dry completely.
- Next is the decoration process. You can paste over with cloth, paper, paint or sew a cover.
