In order to keep the spices fresh, you should follow simple rules for their storage:
- Once a couple of months should check their expiration date. Most often, they can be stored for no more than a year. With a large number of spices, it is better to get a small notebook in which to make notes.
- Spices should not stand next to heat sources, which in the kitchen are represented by a stove, a battery.
- Spices should not be stored in direct sunlight.
- If you need to grind spices, you need to do this immediately before cooking.
- Paprika and chili are stored in the refrigerator.
- Seeds in which there is oil, it is better to freeze.
- Whole leaves and flowers are stored for one to two years.
- Seeds and root crops can be stored for two to three years.
What containers can be used for storage?
In order to preserve all the benefits and aroma in spices, it is important to choose the right place not only for storage, but also for containers:
- In closed cabinets located away from light and heat, spices will remain fresh and fragrant for a long time.
- Sealed lids must be present on jars and containers.
Important! After using spices, the lids must be tightly closed.
The most obvious and correct will be the use of glass jars for storage. They are produced in different shapes, colors and sizes. To make the jars more convenient to operate, they are signed, usually a place for this is marked on them.

- A drill;
- Paint;

- Transparent film;
- Ruler.
Production itself is not a very complicated process, it is enough to follow the instructions.
Important! If a decision is made that the banks will be opaque, they need to be painted. It is best if there is an unpainted strip below, due to which it will be visible what is inside.
We proceed as follows:
- We carry out marking on banks.
- By marking, the tape is glued.
- On areas that remain unpainted, a transparent film is applied.
- A transparent film is also applied to the neck.
- A thin coat of paint is applied using a spray gun.
- After the layer has dried, the following is applied.
- The tape and film are carefully removed.
The next step is to secure the shelves:
- Corners are attached to the shelf.
- Using two screws, each cover is attached to the bottom of the shelf.
Important! First, measurements will be required in order to subsequently have enough space for banks.
- The shelf is hung on the wall.
- Jars are filled with spices and screwed into the lids.
Plywood Spice Shelf
To make such a shelf for spices with your own hands, you need to prepare the following materials and tools:
- 10 mm plywood 70 * 540 mm in size - 2 pcs.;
- 6 mm plywood 70 * 270 mm in size - 4 pcs.;
- Wooden planks 20 * 280 mm - 2 pcs.;
- Wooden planks 10 * 280 mm - 2 pcs.;
- Wood glue;
- Primers on wood;
- Paints on wood;
- Varnish acrylic;
- Carnations are small without hats;
- Jigsaw;
- Milling cutter;
- Nozzles for a milling cutter;
- Rulers of metal;
- A simple pencil;
- Clamps;
- Brushes;
- A hammer;
- Level;
- Small roller.
Do-it-yourself wooden shelf for spices is made as follows:
- Using a jigsaw, we cut out the necessary pieces of plywood.
- We process the ends with sandpaper.
- On longer parts we measure the following segments: 10 mm, 150 mm, 150 mm, 150 mm.
- Draw perpendicular straight lines on the marks.
- Using a milling cutter, along the marked lines we make grooves with a depth of 5 mm.
- We apply wood glue into the grooves and insert 6 mm thick plywood into them.
- After the glue has dried on the outside of the shelf, we stick the protective strips.
- For additional fixation of planks we use cloves without caps.
- Apply a coat of primer.
- We carry out the processing of the shelf with fine sandpaper.
- Apply the paint in two layers.
- After the paint has completely dried, apply acrylic varnish.
- We carry out fastening of loops to sidewalls.
The shelf is ready, it remains only to hang it on the screws inside the cabinet!
