Water in the bathroom does not go away - what should I do?
The bathroom is one of the most necessary and frequently visited places in the house. It is in the bathroom that we put ourselves in order at least twice a day - in the morning and in the evening. Sometimes, due to too intensive operation of the bath, blockages occur. At first, the water begins to leave poorly. If the problem is not eliminated in time, the pipes may become completely plugged. So, if the water in the bathroom does not go away or sticks slowly - what should I do?
to contents ↑Why is sewage blocked?
The main causes of sewerage obstruction are soap residues, grease and dirt. If they stick to the pipe from the inside, they worsen the permeability of the drain and the sewer as a whole. The causes of sewage blockages can be divided into the following categories:
- Mechanical. They are formed due to the ingress of various objects into the sewer - rags, small pebbles, pet hair, hair, etc.
- Operational. They arise due to improper operation of the sewer system, the absence or untimely implementation of preventive measures.
- Technogenic. They arise due to violations made during construction - the wrong choice of a site for laying communications, mistakes made when choosing a slope of the pipeline. Clogs due to emergency situations - freezing of pipes, kink, and also wear of structural elements belong to the category of technogenic ones.
If the water does not leave the bath well, try to find out the cause.

How to eliminate system clogging?
Poor water drain in the bathroom can be solved quickly. There are the following ways to eliminate blockages if the water in the bathroom does not go away:
- Chemical.
- Mechanical.
- Hydrodynamic.
The choice of a particular method depends on the cause of the violation of the sewerage patency. Sometimes, in order to completely eliminate the cork, you need to use several methods at once.
Chemical cleaning
Using special products containing caustic alkalis or acids (“Tyreth”, “Mole”).
Important! Before using this or that chemical agent, carefully read the label with the instructions. You will find out for what pipeline materials this substance is used, the types of blockages that it eliminates. The label also contains information on how to use this product.
The chemical blockage elimination algorithm is as follows:
- Read the instructions on the label.
- Pour the right amount of product into the pipe.
- Wait a while (as indicated in the instructions) for the chemicals to eradicate the blockage.
- Turn on the water and watch how it leaves the bath. If the water still doesn’t leave the bathroom, even though there is no visible blockage, try a different cleaning method.
Important! In order not to harm the plumbing equipment and your own health, in no case do not mix different chemicals.
Mechanical blockage elimination
If you were unable to eliminate the cork chemically and the bathroom water still drains poorly, try to clean the system using a plunger or a special plumbing cable.
Pipe cleaning with plunger
A plunger will help restore the watercourse if the problem is not very large-scale and the blockage is not global:
- Put on your old clothes. The work ahead is quite dirty.
- Draw water into the bath so that the rubber valve from the plunger is completely under water.
- Use a wet cloth to close the overflow hole. This is necessary so that the water that the plunger pushes out does not pour out through the overflow hole, but flows into the sewer.
- Cover the bath drain with the rubber part of the plunger.
- Press the handle of the device to push the accumulated debris along with water into the sewer.
- Press the plunger handle several times until the blockage is completely eliminated.
Important! To wash the drain well, at the end of cleaning, close the drain hole, fill the bathtub with hot water, and then drain it.
Cable clogging
If the water in the bathroom does not drain well, you can use a special cable for plumbing. The procedure for working with the cable is as follows:
- Disconnect the siphon from the pipe.
- Lower the cable inside the pipe and, turning it, try to push through the resulting plug. To better lay the cable in your hand, curl its end with a ring.
- If the cable bumps into an obstacle and does not go further, once again push it and turn it. It is possible that you stumbled on a traffic jam.
- Periodically pull the cable out of the pipe and clean it of debris.
- Continue pushing the cable until the blockage is completely removed.
Important! A cable with a diameter of 7-8 mm is quite suitable for a home sewer system or “weaving” in a summer cottage. Such cables are sold in household goods stores.
Hydrodynamic cleaning
This is the elimination of clogging with water, which is fed into the pipe under pressure.
Important! For hydrodynamic cleaning, you need a compressor device with special hoses. Therefore, most likely for such a method of leveling the problem, you will have to call a specialist.
The procedure for working with hydrodynamic equipment, if the water does not leave in the bathroom:
- Prepare the entire set of equipment.
- Remove the siphon from the drain pipe, insert the hose into the pipe.
- Turning on the compressor, pump water under pressure.
- If water leaves the bathtub freely, turn off the compressor. If the blockage persists, try again.
to contents ↑Important! Hydrodynamics is considered the most effective, efficient and safe way to deal with blockages for sewage.
Water in the bathroom leaves poorly, there is no blockage - we increase the drainage system slope
In the case when the water leaves the bath poorly due to insufficient slope of the drainage system, the use of chemicals is useless. The solution to the problem in this case will be to increase the slope of the drain. There are two ways to achieve this:
- Raise the bath.
- Lower the socket of the sewer riser.
to contents ↑Important! If the angle of inclination is, on the contrary, too large, the confluent water makes a characteristic bubbling sound. For this reason, it is desirable to comply with the optimum slope maximum of 15%.
