Main varieties

Depending on the purpose and design features, these types of sconces are distinguished:

  1. Classic. Their purpose is partial lighting of the room.
  2. Highlights for pictures.
  3. Lamps designed to accent wall decorative objects.
  4. Bra-spots with a change in direction of light.

Important! In wall lighting fixtures, in addition to traditional incandescent bulbs, halogen, fluorescent and LED lamps are used. The most economical option is the use of LED lamps.

As for the choice of power, it should not exceed the rating indicated in the technical characteristics of the lighting device. If you use too powerful lamps, the bases and wires of the lamp will often fail.

Wiring Engineering

Before installing the lamp on the wall, you need to take care of arranging the electrical wiring:

  • If the walls are finished with drywall, then the wiring must be hidden behind its sheets.
  • When using conventional plaster, the wiring cables must be hidden in it. In the thickness of the plaster make a channel, lay a cable
  • and plaster again.
  • If the wall light is plugged in, there is no need for wiring.

Where to place?

Placement of sconces is one of the most crucial moments:

  • If you are going to place the device above the bed (for reading, for example), then its optimal height is 1.5 m. Thanks to this, turning the device on and off is greatly simplified.
  • If the sconces are designed for lighting in the hallway, the best placement height is 2.0 m. For a small hallway, it is advisable to use small lamps. This is advisable not only for design reasons. This reduces the likelihood of accidental damage to devices.
  • The installation height above the mirror or door depends on the height of the mirror or door.

Important! If you want to mount the sconce in a bathroom or other room with high humidity, make sure that the device has moisture protection.

Installation procedure

Much depends on how the sconce is attached to the wall. To begin with, consider the classic case with lamps, which, in addition to the ceiling, have a special base fixed to the wall. For mounting the lamp in the base there are 2, less often 3 holes. It is they that are used for screwing with screws.

Important! Before installing any electrical appliance, electricity in the apartment or house must be turned off.

Operating procedure:

  1. Take the base and attach to the place where the device will be located. Choose a place so that the wiring is easily inserted into the lamp.
  2. Using a pencil, mark the places where you want to place the holes. If the shape of the base body is not round, then it must be set according to the building level. Only in this way can the lamp be hung without distortions.
  3. The next step is drilling holes. For drilling brick or concrete walls, a punch is suitable. Walls of aerated concrete, wood or gypsum concrete can be drilled with a conventional drill.
  4. When the holes are drilled, insert dowels into them, pull the cables through the hole in the base and screw it to the wall. For plastic panels and drywall constructions, dowels should not be used, but moths.
  5. Similarly mounted mounting plate.
  6. After the base is mounted, connect the cables and mount the case itself.

Important! The easiest option is to install miniature lights on the LEDs. It is enough to remove the protective tape and stick the device in the right place, having previously degreased the place of gluing.

Wall sconce installation with built-in switch - features and installation procedure

If the wall lamp is equipped with a plug and a switch, then the device is connected via an outlet. Everything is extremely simple here.

To connect a wall-mounted appliance with an integrated switch, first strip the power cables. Naturally, before that you need to turn off the electricity and check the wires with a screwdriver with an indicator.

Sconce wires must be connected to the terminal strip:

  • Connect the phase cable to the switch.
  • Connect the phase conductor to the L-terminal, the neutral wire to the N-terminal.

The power connection can be considered complete. It remains to collect other elements of the sconce, screw the lamp into the lampholder, check the connections and turn on the electricity.
