How to boil water in the microwave?

A microwave oven is, of course, a useful household appliance, and it can be used to heat a small amount of water, for example, to make a cup of coffee or tea, but this is not always the best option. Each microwave oven is individual and in order to answer the question of how to boil water in the microwave, there is no way to prepare universal instructions for heating a certain amount of water to a certain temperature. In addition, you must remember about safety measures, because when using the wrong method, there is a risk of overheating of the water and overflowing it, as well as getting burns. Today we will talk about what precautions you need to take to safely heat water in the microwave.

How to boil water in the microwave?

Boiling water in the microwave is not an innovation; many of us have been using this method for a long time. Sometimes in the office at work, a microwave is the only household appliance that can be used to heat water. If you decide to adapt this particular device to heat water, then follow these steps to make this process the least safe.

Step 1. Choose the right dishes

Cookware that is intended for use in a microwave oven does not create electric arcs and does not absorb microwaves. If in doubt about the dishes, then check for the markings on them.

You can boil water in the microwave if the dishes are made of such materials:

  • Glass.
  • Ceramics.
  • Waxed parchment paper.
  • Plastic and foam marked “Suitable for use in the microwave”.

Important! If you use unsuitable cookware for heating, the following troubles can occur:

  • Uneven heating.
  • Melting dishes. Cups for yogurt, margarine can melt and ignite, while releasing toxic fumes.
  • The appearance of cracks on the dishes.
  • Ignition Most metals, including aluminum and silver, can start to sparkle when heated, and this can lead to damage to the device and even fire.
  • The appearance of an electric arc.
  • Explosion. Sealed containers may explode under the pressure of hot steam.

Step 2. Heat the water safely

Boiling water in the microwave is very simple:

  1. Pour water into a suitable container.
  2. Make sure that the container is not covered by a lid, as hot steam can cause an explosion.
  3. Place a container of water in the unit.
  4. Dip a non-metallic object, such as a wooden stick or spoon, into the cup. This will prevent the water from overheating and will contribute to the formation of bubbles.
  5. Heat the water for no more than one minute, until the water begins to produce steam.
  6. Use a towel or tack to remove the container of water from the microwave.
  7. Pour tea leaves or a tea bag with water.

Drink to health - tea is ready!

Helpful hints:

  1. An additional object, such as a wooden spoon, should always be in the water tank, so that the bubbles are where to collect.
  2. Do not place the container in the microwave oven closed, as the expansion of hot steam may cause an explosion.
  3. Do not hold your face too close to a container of boiling water. An unexpected increase in water volume can lead to severe burns to the face and even loss of vision in the worst case scenario.
  4. Before you remove the cup from the microwave, stir the water with a long object, such as a wand. At the moment when the object touches water, bubbles will begin to form on its surface and if the water overheats, then it will increase in volume and overflow over the edge, and if not, then you are safe.
  5. Do not heat the water for too long. The exact amount of time it takes to heat the water depends on the power of the microwave. For safety reasons, limit the time it takes for the fluid to heat up to one minute. And depending on how much the water has heated up in 1 minute, you can adjust the time of the next approach. Powerful microwaves can boil a glass of water in one minute, and weaker ones in three.
  6. If you use cookware that retains heat perfectly, such as ceramic, be careful when removing it from the oven. Use a potholder or towel for this purpose.

Important! Do not put tea bags or leaves in water before placing it in a CB oven. Metal clips on sachets can cause an electric arc. And if you put dry tea in the water before it starts to heat up, the tea will brew too soon and get out of your control. First, heat the water, and then pour boiling tea bags or tea leaves.

How to avoid the threat of overheating water?

Overheating occurs when water is heated above the boiling point. Overheated water can be dangerous - if you disturb it in this state, then it will very quickly begin to form steam. And this will lead to an increase in the volume of boiling water and will look like a small explosion when in contact with any object, for example, a piece of sugar or a tea bag. In turn, the violent behavior of boiling water during overheating can cause a burn.

Overheating usually occurs when using a glass cup and very clean water, such as distilled water. In this case, there are no surfaces on which bubbles could condense.

Important! If you decide to boil water in the microwave, it is recommended to use tap water. Another option is to use a container that has a scratch or chip on the inside so that these defects become the focus of bubble formation.

The most reliable way to find out if the water is boiling is to use a thermometer of suitable gradation. Water boils at a temperature of 100 degrees.

Is it possible to boil water in a microwave?

In a microwave oven, water is capable of not only heating to a boiling point, but also higher. However, the water does not boil if it stands motionless. The liquid will be heated more and more, due to the acceleration of hydrogen particles by microwaves, but there will be no characteristic bubbles by which we are used to determine the boiling of water.

No matter how much water is heated in the microwave oven, you still will not notice the boiling point. And with severe overheating, the capacity can simply burst. It is for this reason that we recall once again that it is always necessary to put an additional object in a container with water - this is a very important point.

Many do not recommend putting a metal spoon in a cup, but manufacturers claim that it is on a metal spoon that electric discharges pass and it begins to tremble, shaking water, causing bubbles during boiling. However, when using a metal spoon, adhere to the following rule: the spoon should not go closer than two centimeters to the door and walls of the furnace.

Important! Our advice is to use only a wooden spoon or stick, so that the water heating does not spoil not only the device itself, but also the design of the entire kitchen.

If you need boiling water for a cup of tea or coffee, and you do not want to bother and heat the water on the stove, then of course you can boil the water in the microwave for one minute, but always remember the rules of heating and safety measures. And one more tip: do not abuse the microwave oven, as the results of scientific and clinical trials have proved that as a result of exposure to the microwave, water changes not only its structure, but also its energy. Take care of your health!
