Before removing the old coating, it is necessary to prepare in advance the tools that are used for dismantling. Also, preparatory measures should be implemented, consisting in the liberation of the working space from furniture and other interior elements, removal of baseboards and the elimination of decorative thresholds.
Important! In case of partial, but not complete dismantling of the parquet, that part of the floor that is not subject to repair work must be covered with hardboard or thick cardboard, secured with plastic wrap. This procedure will help protect the floor surface from debris and dust.
When dismantling parquet with your own hands, you will need the following tools:
- chisel;
- Circular Saw;
- crowbar;
- hatchet;
- hammer.
The level of complexity of installation work of a parquet coating depends on:
- Type of parquet. In the modern market there are several types of this material - piece parquet, rack and panel.
- Mounting option. The method of attaching the boards can be carried out by connecting with finish nails, by gluing or nailing.
Important! If the parquet is glued to the base, it is no longer possible to apply it a second time.
- The type of base under the finish of the parquet - use chipboard, a coating of plywood, boards or the usual version of the screed.
Important! All of the above factors have a major impact on the complexity and duration of the process of dismantling parquet, as well as on the cost of work performed. This is the case if you have to resort to the services of a professional specialist.
How to remove old parquet? Before removing old parquet flooring, personal protective equipment should be prepared. The following must be mandatory:

Parquet dismantling process
Dismantling works are carried out in several stages:
- First you need to eliminate the parquet layer.
- After this, the base is dismantled.
- The next step will be the process of cleaning the screed with its subsequent alignment.
to contents ↑Important! Some craftsmen in the process of self-eliminating the old parquet flooring use looping equipment, which helps to speed up the process. But experts do not recommend using this unit, since screws and nails that are in the old parquet flooring can damage this device during the looping process.
Dismantling piece parquet
The appearance of the parquet affects the complexity required to remove the parquet layer. It is very difficult to dismantle piece parquet, especially in the case of reliable bonding. The difficulty lies in the fact that parquet boards cannot be removed as a whole, since they are delaminated or glued.
Let's consider in more detail how to remove piece parquet with your own hands:
- First, preparatory measures are carried out, consisting in the release of room space from furniture and other interior items.
Important! In the case of passage under the surface of the floor or on the wall covering, the room must be de-energized without fail.
- Next, it is necessary to dismantle the skirting board. To do this, use a crowbar, which you can simply pry off and remove the baseboard, while the first die is easy to remove by cutting down the comb.
Important! It will be much easier to replace the parquet coating if you try to tap it with a hammer. Dismantling work begins at the site where the dies depart from the base. In this place a dull and “thumping” sound will be heard from a hammer tapping.
- Further, dismantling work is performed depending on the circumstances:
- If the dies were nailed, then use a nail clipper.
- If the elements were additionally glued, then a hatchet or crowbar is used to remove the dies, with which the dies should be pried. Some dies easily move away from the base, others are stratified or need to be removed from the coating in parts.
Important! Dismantling work must be done very carefully. It is unlikely that it will be possible to maintain a completely old parquet flooring. But the losses must be minimized.
Opening the substrate
In the process of dismantling piece parquet with your own hands, it is necessary to open the substrate. Therefore, we will consider in more detail how this process can be implemented:
- As a rule, the substrate is fixed on self-tapping screws, which are easily twisted out by means of a reverse stroke of a screwdriver.
- In the case of using nails during installation, a nail clipper is used to remove them.
A puncher helps cut down the screed. But, as a rule, it cannot be dismantled. The screed is simply repaired and leveled for a new coating.
to contents ↑Important! If the elements are glued tightly, then a puncher, which has a flat tip, is used to remove them. In this case, the eyes must be protected with glasses from chips.
Dismantling of shield parquet
It is much easier to carry out dismantling work to replace the panel board in the apartment. Moreover, this process is much faster than the dismantling of other types of flooring.
How to remove the shield parquet with your own hands:
- First of all, you should find the shield that fit last, since it should be with an open groove.
Important! Modular coating is usually produced from a window opening. With this method, elements having an open ridge are located on the side of the opposite wall.
- When the required shield is found, it must be gently pry off with a crowbar (from the corner) and torn off.
Important! If the shields were additionally planted on nails, then it is advisable to remove them first with a nail clipper.
- After that, you can slowly remove the old parquet flooring. The following modules are removed in the same way.
to contents ↑Important! Previously, a very old parquet coating was laid not on the usual version of glue, but on resin. The reverse side of such shields is very dirty. When disassembling such elements, they need to be long and thoroughly cleaned with a hatchet of resin.
Dismantling a parquet board

They are laid like a laminate, using a special lock. Removing such a parquet board is not difficult, you just need to snap the lock.

How to open a site to replace rivets?
Before proceeding with dismantling, you need to carefully inspect the parquet flooring. It may not be necessary to remove the entire coating, but it is possible to replace one riveting or a small section of parquet. In this case, a very thin chisel is hammered into the joint between the dies, which is able to chop off the comb from the main bar. Thus, the first riveting is pulled out, and all subsequent rivets are removed by the method described above.
