Basic measures

• leg width;
• ankle girth;

Important! Waist circumference is measured at the navel, hips - along the most convex part, seat height - along the side seam from the waist to the chair seat. The distance from the bottom to the groin is a step seam.

• neck circumference;
• product length from neck to waist;

What to measure?

• strong thread.

How to sew doll pants with your own hands - on a typewriter or manually? It depends mainly on the size of the doll:

• But for Barbie, all clothes can be sewn by hand.

But in any case, you need:

• tailor's scissors;
• short scissors (you can use manicure);
• set of needles for hand sewing;
• threads matching the color of fabric and suitable quality;
• thin elastic tape (pharmacy gum is suitable for small dolls);
• small buttons, buttons and hooks.

Important! Make sure that you always have a pencil and sheets in a box at hand (copybook or graph paper). They are ideal for making patterns, even if you take drawings from grandmother's magazines and calendars, where they are printed in a greatly reduced form.

We make a pattern

Before you sew the pants for the doll with your own hands, they must be cut. Of course, you can take a pattern in a magazine or on the Internet, if we are talking about Barbie or BZD doll, clothes for which sometimes cost no less than VIP class outfits for an adult.A whole industry works for such “clients”, there are no problems with patterns. If necessary, new patterns can be done by tearing apart old things and outlining the contours of parts.

If you do not have such a popular toy, you will have to work hard. However, this takes a little time:

1. Decide how wide the legs will be.
2. In the upper left corner of the sheet, put the letter T.
3. From this angle down, lay down the length of the product, you can put the point H (bottom).
4. Divide the waist circumference by 4, add 1 cm to the result.
5. Postpone the resulting measurement from the point T to the right and put the point T1.
6. From the same point T down, postpone the height of the seat, put, for example, point W (step).
7. Draw a horizontal line from this point to the right.
8. Divide your hips by 4 and add 2 cm.
9. Put the resulting measurement to the right of point W.
10. Let it be the point Ш1.
11. Connect the points T1 and Sh1 with a smooth line.
12. From point H draw a horizontal line.
13. Set aside the width of the leg and set the point H1.
14. Connect the points Ш1 and Н1.
15. Connect the points H and T with a dashed line - when cutting it will be applied to the fold of the fabric.
16. Sign the pattern - the name and number of parts (in this case 2).
17. Sign the size of the allowances with a plus and a number - the marking on the waist is +2, on the bottom line - +1.5, on the step and middle lines - +0.7.

What to sew from?

For dolls, they rarely buy fabric. Usually they get what is left of the household items. This has its own plus. Since doll clothes do not experience serious mechanical stresses, you can tailor them as you like. The main thing is to fit the picture, if any.

To make two-piece doll pants, you need 2 pieces of fabric of the appropriate size:

• the length is equal to the length of the product, plus the seam allowance;
• the width is equal to the half-circumference of the hips, plus allowances.

Important! If you are going to sew heavily flared trousers, the width of the flap is compared not with the half-circumference of the hips, but with the width of the leg.

Fabric Features

You should not sew doll clothes from materials that are very showered. For skirts and trousers sewn to a person, this moment is not so important, but on a tiny doll the creeping threads will be very noticeable and seem large. The doll will look messy.

Therefore, choose fabrics with a strong weave or allowances on which you can easily patch up. Hygiene and environmental friendliness do not play such a big role as in the manufacture of children's clothing, because your “client” does not have allergies, she does not sweat and does not freeze.

Therefore, such materials are most suitable:

• lavsan;
• nylon;
• Payee
• microfiber;
• gas;
• veil;
• raincoat fabric;
• Bologna.

Least of all fit:

• denim;
• wool;
• silk;

Getting down to cutting

They lay doll trousers in almost the same way as human trousers. To do this, you will need:

• a pair of tailor pins;
• bar of soap or chalk;
• scissors.

Important! Chalk or soap should give a very thin line, so it’s best to sharpen it. You can draw with a pencil, but not on all fabrics, it leaves a fairly noticeable mark. But for Bologna and Visitor, a ballpoint pen draws best.

• Hem the hem - if the doll is large, you can twist the cut twice, in the same way as in the manufacture of ordinary clothes.

Important! For a small “client” you can fold the bottom once.

• Fold the blanks together with their faces, matching the same slices.
• Sew them with a basting seam, leaving the upper and lower sections open.
• Turn out the pants and try on.
• Fit them around the doll with a few small stitches.

Belt

The belt of human trousers is perhaps the most difficult part, but what about a doll? In fact, it’s okay if you have a suitable elastic band in width.

Gum belt

1. Cut a piece of elastic at the waist.
2. Sew it in a ring.
3. Sew very carefully to the upper section of the trousers.

If the doll is large, an elastic ribbon will do, good, it happens of different widths and different colors. It is also sewn into the ring in the same way, and then it is already sewn to the upper cut (so that the seam is on the inside).

Important! When you sew on an elastic band, it needs to be slightly pulled.

Other belt designs

Making doll clothes provides much more opportunities for original technological solutions than sewing for people. For example, a belt can be issued in several other ways:

• on ties:
• on the shoes if your doll will wear a wide shirt over the pants;
• finally, making the doll’s pants with your own hands can be without a belt at all - it’s enough to stitch the top with a basting seam, small stitches, and pull it down a little.

How to make pants for a doll without a pattern?

For pants made of light material, a pattern is not needed at all. You will need:

• 2 identical rectangular pieces of chiffon, gas or thin nylon;
• thin elastic band;
• accessories for sewing.

Important! The length of each piece of fabric is equal to the length of the product, the width is more than half the circumference of the hips. The wider the shreds, the better.

How to make such pants for a doll:

1. Overcast all sections.
2. Fold the flaps with their faces facing each other.
3. From the bottom cut on both long sides, mark the length of the stepping.
4. Sew the seams from the mark to the waist on both sides.
5. Sew step seams.
6. Sew the top with a basting seam, in small stitches.
7. Stretch along the waistline of the assembly.
8. Sew the lower sections of the legs in the same seam and also pull it off.
9. Hide the nodules on the wrong side, under the buttonhole.

Important! Such pants are suitable for a large doll, but then the belt and lower parts of the legs are best done with an elastic band.

Tulle harem pants

Do you have a little tulle after you sewed a skirt for your daughter? Fine. Ideal material for doll clothes:

• does not crumble;
• you can cut as you like;
• does not stretch;
• does not fade;
• badly torn, but well cut;
• You can sew on the outside, if the thread is exactly in tone.

Important! There is one drawback - the material is quite transparent, but just for small doll clothes this is not so important. If you make the pants wide enough to have a lot of folds, the flaw will disappear by itself. In addition, you can sew a long wide jacket in oriental style or make a belt in the form of a scarf.

Such trousers are sewn in exactly the same way as the previous ones, that is, from two rectangular shreds. Just don’t need to sew them around - the edge of the tulle looks quite neat. We select the threads strictly in color and quality, then the seam will be completely invisible.

Getting to the creative process:

1. As in the previous case, we first mark the length of the step seam and sew from it to the waist on both sides - and in this case it is better not to use the traditional “back needle” stitch, but something more interesting, from the buttonhole to the “goat”.
2. In the same way we sew both step seams.
3. We lay basting seams along the bottom of the legs and the waistline.
