Preparation of a wooden surface for laying linoleum

Before laying linoleum on a wooden floor, you should first check how smooth it is, since in this process it is of great importance.

Important! If you do not comply with this condition and put the material on an uneven floor, then all defects will be seen through it, which will certainly lead to deformation of the coating. That is, the better you prepare the floor for work, the more beautiful and neat linoleum will look and will last longer.

Here are the following recommendations:

  • After some time, the wooden floor is damaged and deformed, therefore, people who are familiar with the construction business, it is advised to lay sheets of chipboard or fiberboard under linoleum.
  • If the floor is perfectly preserved, then buy plates with a thickness of 5-8 mm, but if there are differences, then at least 1.5 cm.

The base is prepared in the following sequence:

  1. Remove old paint with a spatula. You can use a building hair dryer to heat the floor so that the paint leaves better.
  2. Nail the boards that creak.
  3. Use an electric planer or parquet grinder to level the surface.
  4. Vacuum the old floor, wash and dry it thoroughly. In the case of plywood, buy another special adhesive for parquet. Plywood sheets must be laid with an offset of one and a half sheets.
  5. Glue the plywood sheets to the floor with nails.
  6. Putty all the gaps with mastic, and grind the joints.

Preparing linoleum for the laying process

Before laying linoleum on an uneven wooden floor, the decorative coating itself should also be prepared. It’s better if the material settles for a couple of days, settles down and takes off. Moreover, this should happen only at room temperature, so that it is absolutely even, without folds and bends.

Important! If you suddenly notice something like this, try to eliminate the error with the help of books or boards with which you can pin it down. Did the crease or the hall still remain? Then you will have to replace this piece of linoleum, otherwise - during operation you will have trouble.

It is also very important that the humidity level from 40 to 60% is maintained in the room where the material will be stored.
