How to trim ceiling skirting in the corners?
The baseboard, which is attached to the ceiling, performs primarily an aesthetic function, separating two planes - the walls and the ceiling itself. However, besides this, such a detail implies another important function - sometimes it hides under itself the errors of wallpapering or ceiling decoration. Of course, not in every interior design the skirting board will fit harmoniously, but in most cases the interior will look incomplete without using this part. In this article, you will learn how to trim a ceiling plinth in the corners using improvised tools.
to contents ↑Use of miter box
Typically, most modern living quarters have room angles of 90 degrees. Based on this, the trim of the skirting board must be done 90 or 45 degrees. To correctly trim, you need a tool called a “miter box” - suitable cuts have already been made there.
Important! It would seem that the main work without using this device is easy, but the bar is attached to the corner under 38-45 degrees. This means that manually cut corners will not dock - they will form gaps that will spoil the view. So that they do not form, use the tool described above.
The following materials should also be prepared in advance:
- Stationery knife.
- Hacksaw for metal.
- Skirting board.
Trimming Inner Corners
In order to trim the ceiling plinth using such a tool, proceed as follows:
- Attach the workpiece to the place where it will be attached, measure the desired length.
- Install it in our tool so that the position of these two objects coincides.
Important! The skirting board must be pressed firmly against the far wall of the appliance. The baseboard itself must be held with an inactive hand.
- Choose the 45-degree position of the hacksaw, and its handle should be as close as possible to your hand, which holds the decor item.
- Cut the workpiece.
Important! Do not press the saw too hard.
- Take the baseboard strip and install it in the same way to the far wall of the device.
- Cut it as described above.
Important! Before work, it is better to practice cutting small pieces of the plinth - this is necessary in order to "get your hand in it", because during repair work it is better not to make even the slightest mistakes.
Trim the outer corner
If everything is not so difficult with the internal corner points of the room, then how to cut the ceiling plinth in the corners, if it is outside? To begin with, it is advisable to mark the internal baguette - this is necessary in order to avoid a situation when the desired bar is not enough in length. To do this, attach the bar to the ceiling itself and outline its dimensions.
So, the markup is done, you can get to work:
- Install the skirting board, pressing it to the nearest wall, hold it with one hand.
- Choose a 45-degree position for the hacksaw when its handle comes close to the hand that holds the workpiece.
- Cut the workpiece.
- Cut the strike plate in the same way.
- Dock the corners.
If there is no mucus
If your walls are not perfect or there is no miter box in your house, it is better to use other methods without using a special device.
Trimming Inner Corners
You can trim the ceiling plinth in the corners without a miter box, following this algorithm:
- Attach the bracket to the ceiling as it will be attached in the future.
- Draw a horizontal line using the decor element as a ruler.
- Attach a return blank on the other hand, draw a line in the same way.
- At the point of intersection of the lines, make a mark on the fillets and draw a line from this mark to the bottom corner of the bar. On it you can safely cut with a sharp clerical knife.
- Attach both strips to the corner and check for gaps. If there is, carefully trim the corners.
Important! Do not make much effort when trimming the plank, as under the influence of glue it is still deformed.
Trimming Outside Corners
Before gluing baguettes in the corners without a miter box, you need to correctly trim the corners:
- Attach the ceiling fillet as if it were to the right of the corner point.
- Attach a fillet to his left, draw a line on the ceiling until the lines intersect with each other.
- Make marks on the fillet where the lines intersect, as well as where the corner point of the room is.
- Connect the marks with a dash on the fillet, walk through them with a sharp knife.
Important! The cut should go inside the fillet.
- Check the joint in the corner, cut if necessary.
- Glue the fillet into place.
