If you want to give your clothes a certain shape or to decorate the interior with textile objects, you probably have a question: how to starch the fabric? To cope with this task correctly, find out what are the ways and how to correctly apply different tools for this purpose.

Previously, almost every housewife used to starch cotton products, which not only gave them a more well-groomed look, but also made things less worn, dirty and better washed.
With the help of starch, a thin film is formed on things, on which dust and dirt settle and thanks to this, any product is easier to wash off, because the pollution goes away with the starch.
There are three ways to starch the fabric: soft, semi-rigid and hard. Let's take a closer look at each of them.

Before starching a dress or any other thing made of thin fabrics (cambric, chiffon, muslin), prepare a solution of starch, as follows:
- Take 1 tsp. starch.
- Dissolve it in a small amount of water.
- Stir the resulting solution thoroughly until all lumps dissolve.
- Pour 1 liter of water into the pan, bring it to a boil.
- Pour the previously prepared solution into boiling water, while stirring all the time.
Semi-rigid way
This method is used for starching men's shirts, napkins and tablecloths. Prepare in the same way as for the soft way of starching, the only difference is that starch should take 1 tbsp.

Hard way
If you want to create the perfect rigid shape for cuffs and collars, when deciding how to starch the fabric, give preference to this method.
To prepare the paste, dissolve 2 tablespoons in a small amount of water. starch and pour the resulting solution into a boiling liter of hot water. But, before starching the fabric in this way, prepare an additional solution from borax.
For this:
- Take 1 tsp. boric sodium salt.
- Dissolve it in a small amount of warm water.
- Mix well.

How to starch a shirt?
Shirts are starchy with a paste prepared in a soft way. To do this, follow this sequence of actions:
- Take the cooked paste.
- Dip the shirt completely in it.

- Take it out and slightly wring it out.

How to starch linen?
You can starch linen without much effort, if you adhere to the following sequence of actions:
- Pour 1 liter of water.
- Dissolve in it 1 tbsp. starch.
- Boil the required amount of water and pour in the gradually prepared solution.
- Dip the laundry completely into it.
- Leave on for 15 minutes.
- Remove and hang to dry.
How to starch a dress?
In order to shape the dress with the help of starch, follow the steps below:
- Take a deep container, best enameled.
- Put the right amount of starch on the bottom.
- Pour it with a little water.
- Mix thoroughly until smooth.
- Gradually pour boiling water into the mixture, and do not forget to mix it.
- Make sure that there are no lumps in the solution.
- Wait for the solution to cool to a temperature of 30-35 degrees.
- Immerse the dress in it.
- Mix it thoroughly in the solution.
- Remove and squeeze gently.
- Straighten each crease of the dress.
- Hang it to dry on a coat hanger at room temperature.

How to starch a skirt?
To starch a tulle skirt, you need to do the following:
- Wash and dry the product.
- Take 5g of starch and dissolve it in 0.5 tbsp. water.
- Mix thoroughly so that there are no lumps.
- Pour a liter of water into the pan and bring it to a boil.
- Pour the previously prepared solution into it.
- Boil for 5 minutes, constantly stirring it.
- Cool the cooked mixture.
- If necessary, strain it through cheesecloth, if lumps still form in it.
- Apply the mixture to each layer of the skirt with a sponge.
- Dry it on a flat surface or gently hang it on a hanger.
- Iron it using the steam function.
How to starch colored fabric?
For colored fabrics, gelatin is best used, as starch will leave whitish marks on it. For this:
- Take 2 tsp. edible gelatin.
- Dissolve it in 0.5 tbsp. water.
- Wait 15-30 minutes.
- Add to the mixture 1 tbsp. water and mix thoroughly.
- Heat the solution in a water bath, constantly stirring it.
- Continue these steps until the gelatin is completely dissolved, but do not boil
- Remove it from the fire.
- Wait until it cools down a bit.
- Dip the fabric in the resulting solution.
- Make sure it is completely saturated with gelatin.
- Remove it from the solution.
- Do not squeeze - spread and hang to dry on the shoulders.

How to starch fabric in a washing machine?
You can also starch the laundry with the washing machine, for this:
- Prepare a starch solution.
- Pour into the air conditioning compartments.
- Turn on the washing machine for 2-3 minutes.
- Remove the laundry and hang to dry.
- Rinse the drum of the washing machine by turning it on when not in rinse mode.
Helpful hints:
- A pinch of salt added to the starch will give a special sheen to the white fabric.
- A few drops of turpentine added to the paste will prevent the iron from sticking to the fabric.
- In order that knitted things do not lose their shape (napkins, lace), dry them on a flat surface, after stretching and jokes with needles.
- Do not dry starch-treated items in the cold.
- From corn starch on dark things, light streaks and smudges can appear, so use only potato.
- It is not recommended to starch embroidery from mouline thread, with this procedure the threads stick together and lose their original color.
- Be sure to strain the paste if it contains lumps.
- Do not starch those things that fit tightly to the body, especially underwear, as they will not allow air to pass through.
- Starch only clean things and not much wrinkled.
