How to make a pouf?

There are many options for making soft pouf. For example, it can be either frame or frameless, square or round, sheathed with material or knitted. Now we will give an example of how to make upholstered furniture such as a rectangular pouf on a frame basis with a size of 400x400x500 mm.

Materials

To make such a headset, we need the following list of materials and tools:

• Thick fabric for lining to choose from.
• Filler (foam rubber, synthetic winterizer, batting) 50 mm thick.
• Wooden beam measuring 150x40x40 mm.
• Chipboard panel measuring 1750x2400x16 mm.
• 2 piano loops.
• 4 rollers to move the pouf.
• Saw with small teeth.
• Hammer.
• Screwdriver.
• Joiner's glue.
• Construction stapler for upholstery.
• Wood screws.
• Pencil.
• Ruler.
• Sewing machine.

Step-by-step instruction

So we come to the most important question - how to make upholstered furniture. Below is a detailed workshop that will help you get the job done with minimal time. Let's look at what stages it consists of:

1. We mark on a flat surface (table or floor). We cut out for the walls of the future pouf 2 rectangular canvases measuring 370x400 mm. Now again we cut 2 pieces of 370x400 mm and 1 segment of 400x400 mm in size for the side parts of our product.
2. We saw the timber into 4 flat parts so that the length of each side is 370 mm.
3. We collect the box from the already cut wooden pieces. We make sure that our frame has a height of 370 mm.
4. We glue the bars with carpentry glue on the inner corners of our design.
5. We fix the corners of the frame with durable self-tapping screws.
6. We put the top cover on the foam sheet (size 400x400 mm) and cut out the necessary section of material. Now we cut 3 squares, and then glue them together. We need these squares to cover the seat of the pouf.
7. Glue the foam to the very top cover.
8. Cut 4 strips of seal, fill the gap between the previously made lid and a large foam rubber square.
9. We make a drawing of cutting the skin of the top cover based on measurements of a finished ottoman glued with foam. Do not forget to add 1 cm to the seams. Similarly, we sketch for the sides of the product. Leave 6 cm of allowance for the upper and lower bend.
10. Transfer the sketch to the fabric and carefully cut the blanks.
11. We start sewing, first of all, we sew the seams that will be visible on the front side of the finished pouf.
12. We dress the finished cover on the product so that all the corners coincide.
13. We make a bend, cutting a little corners. Nail upholstery to the box using a construction stapler. We use it to fix the bottom of the fabric.
14. We perform similar actions with the top cover, securing to it a pre-cut material.
15. We stretch the fabric, make a small room, and then nail it with brackets to the chipboard sheet.
16. We make a neat “tongue” from the fabric, we nail it to the top cover. Thanks to this element, you can easily open the pouf.
17. We attach the mechanism (2 piano loops) to the bottom of the lid with screws. To the bottom of the soft product we fasten 4 rollers at 4 corners.

Assembly of construction:

1. We cut the basis for the future sofa according to our sketches. Cut out the form from the plywood sheet using a jigsaw. If you plan to create furniture of complex shape, then make the base of several parts interconnected. You can cut the base out of plywood, which remains from the old headset.
2. We attach vertical racks to the base, and after that - horizontal rails.
3. We lay the plywood on the sofa frame.
4. We fix the plywood sheet to the frame using self-tapping screws or furniture glue.
5. We begin the installation of the back, checking its commensurability with the base of the product.
6. We carry out the assembly of the back according to the manufacturing scheme of the frame. We make sure that the lower and upper beam of the backrest has a width of 8-9 cm.
7. We attach the back to the seat (base) using metal corners for this.
8. We process the wooden frame with fine-grained emery paper. If necessary, cover it with paint or varnish.
9. We begin to manufacture soft parts. We make 2 bases 30 cm thick of decorative material and foam.
10. We connect the basics with a construction stapler or detachable lightning.
11. We wrap the foam rubber parts with synthetic winterizer so that the filler does not wear out so quickly.
12. We make soft pillows from upholstery fabric, taking as a basis square or rectangular cuts. We sew pillows on 4 sides, not forgetting to fill the interior with foam. We attach pillows to the base of our sofa with wide Velcro tapes.
