Shrovetide has been celebrated by Slavic peoples since ancient times. It begins in the second half of February or early March and lasts 7 days. This holiday symbolizes the departure of winter and the arrival of spring. For all seven days, pancakes are fried and served with various fillings. Each day of the holiday has its own name: a meeting, a tune, a gourmet, a revelry, a break, an evening party, a mother-in-law of a get-together, and the last day is Sunday forgiven. In the last Shrovetide, a scarecrow is burned - a symbol of winter, thus saying goodbye to winter until next year. And on this day, as a rule, mass festivities are arranged. And to be at the epicenter of events, to fully enjoy them, you need an appropriate surroundings - a headdress for Shrovetide with your own hands or a complete peculiar outfit for an oiler. A bit about traditions

Burning a scarecrow in Russia was the most popular way of seeing off winter. A variety of stuffed animals were burned at the stake:

  • poles wrapped in rags;
  • wheels clad on a pole;
  • just bunches of straw.

But most often a doll was made, which was a symbol of the evil and cold winter:

  • Usually, straw, twigs, rods were used for this.
  • Clothes on the doll should be with a floral pattern.

In addition to pancakes and stuffed animals, Shrovetide is associated in people with festivities and carnivals. And there is no way to do without costumes. You must dress up. Since this is a national holiday, it is appropriate to sew traditional Russian costumes. In the old days, such clothes were considered exclusively elegant and weekend clothes.

Men's suits

The basis of the carnival costume for the representative of the stronger sex will be a shirt-shirt:

  • Traditionally, it is red - in the old days this color was considered the most elegant, but any bright color will do.
  • The shirt can be decorated with a wide patterned braid.
  • The shirt is belted with a matching color belt. You can even use a scarf for this purpose.

DIY kokoshnik do it yourself

This headdress, at first glance, resembles a fan in shape. It can be made of thick cardboard or using metal tape. It can be covered with any fabric to your taste, velvet of bright color will look rich. The top of the kokoshnik is a comb decorated with beads, beads, and gilded threads. The headpiece is fixed on the back with the help of ribbons sewn on both sides.

Important! In the old days, embroidery with gold threads on the kokoshnik was performed on the back of the head.

Kokoshnik do it yourself from cardboard:

  1. First you need to make a pattern, you can choose the right option on the Internet and print it on a printer.
  2. The base is cut out of thick cardboard. It can be used as a pattern to make blanks for the front and back sides of fabric.

Important! Do not forget to take into account allowances, just leave 1-2 cm.

  1. Finished parts of the front and back side are sewn together, but leave the bottom edge not hemmed.
  2. The resulting preform is pulled onto a cardboard base and the lower edge is sutured.
  3. A tape or elastic is sewn on both sides to fix the garment on the head.
  4. At the last stage, the kokoshnik is decorated with improvised materials, for example, beads, artificial stones, ribbons, etc.

Important! Do not overload the headpiece with jewelry and keep in mind that cardboard can tear from heavy jewelry.

Kokoshnik on a wire basis

This is a more time-consuming procedure:

  1. A wire with a diameter of more than 3 mm is selected, which will keep its shape. Also useful are pliers, thick cardboard, fabric, ribbons and beads for decoration.
  2. It is necessary to bend the wire so that the rim is in good shape.
  3. Then the base is cut out of cardboard. She will be pressed tightly to her head and be in an upright position.
  4. 2 parts are cut out of the fabric (upper and lower). As a pattern, you need to use a cardboard base.
  5. The cardboard base is sewn to the metal rim with thick threads.
  6. The comb is made in the same way. A cardboard pattern is cut out, fabric details of the front ridge and its back, and the base is sewn to the wire.
  7. The upper base, the comb and the back of the fabric are sewn together, then stretched to the kokoshnik from above.
  8. Then the lower base is sewn.
  9. Ribbons are sewn on - they need to be sewn together very carefully.

Important! The last stage is decoration. Unleash your imagination and decorate your resulting headdress for Shrovetide with your own hands with rhinestones, gold threads, and artificial pearls.
