Choose a model

This model has a metal frame and a box for storing linen and pillows. The armrests can be rearranged - for example, to make pillow supports out of them. Soft parts and covers can be removed without any effort.

"Aster"

This model is often made without any armrests. It is very light and compact. When folded, it is a cross between an armchair and a sofa, but it easily turns into a rather spacious and comfortable bed.

Lydia

The most classical “accordion” from chipboard. The industry produces such models of different sizes, but you can offer your own option, suitable for your room. It is easy to assemble and disassemble, and it is just the easiest way to do it yourself.

Choosing materials and tools

As for materials, then, regardless of the model chosen, you will need:

• bars with a section of 50x25 mm,
• Fiberboard 4 mm;
• plywood 10 mm
• upholstery fabric;
• foam rubber;
• three-part mattress;
• guides and wheels (for that part which will be put forward);
• fasteners (staples, nails, screws);
• legs for the stationary part;
• construction glue;
• transformation mechanism;
• support loops.

Important! Support hinges, castors and the transformation mechanism can be bought at a furniture hardware store or ordered online.

The tools you need are the simplest that are always in the box of the home master:

• drill;
• screwdriver;
• hammer;
• manual stapler;
• roulette;
• ruler;
• pencil.

In addition, you need a small free space for an impromptu workshop, as well as a table. You will have enough rooms with an area of ​​10 sq.m.

We make a sketch

Instructions on how to assemble a sofa accordion, assembly scheme depend on your idea. That is, before you start doing, you need to sketch a sketch. You can easily find the necessary drawings on the Internet - you just have to substitute your sizes. First of all, decide what the soft part will be based on:

• on a metal frame with slats;
• on a frame made of timber.

The metal frame is made of a pipe of round or rectangular cross-section. This somewhat complicates the design. To make such a frame you need:

• metal pipe;
• lamellas;
• plate holder;
• fasteners;
• pipe bender;
• welding machine.

Not everyone has the opportunity to work with metal, so the vast majority of home craftsmen choose the option with a wooden frame, it is much simpler and easier.

Important! For this option, it is necessary to very accurately calculate the mounting step.

What is a sofa made of?

Any transformer consists of several parts. Before you fold the sofa accordion, you have to make separate elements:

• the soft part of the three sections (seat, back of the back and front of the back);
• two armrests (soft, straight);
• stiffener (for connecting two sidewalls);
• box on casters;
• guides for a box.

If you yourself took up the sketch, decide for yourself a few questions:

• what will be the height of the back;
• Do you need a box?
• Do you need soft armrests or can they be made rigid.

The choice of materials depends on this. The back may be high, but in some designs it is just a stiffener. The armrests are not necessarily made straight - their shape may be curly, but this will require additional effort and some skills.

After that, you need to make the drawings:

1. Put down all sizes on the sketch.
2. Imagine what the surface scan of each part looks like.
3. Draw the drawings in full size or scale, taking into account the dimensions you define.
4. Apply additional details to the drawing of each element.

Important! Care must be taken to the height of the transformation mechanism - it should correspond to the thickness of the mattress.

We make the details

All details must be done strictly according to the drawings. Perhaps, it’s best to start with the armrests - at the same time you can practice working with the tool. It should be remembered that they must be absolutely symmetrical. The only difference is where the assembly bolt is directed.

Frame

The main part of the sofa is the frame, to which the armrests and the soft part are attached. The work is best done in this order:

1. Assemble the frame from four strips of plywood (top, bottom, front and back walls, as well as seven bars).
2. Put the last seventh beam close to the back wall.
3. Drill a hole in it for the mounting bolts.
4. Install and fix the bolts on the side of the hat with wooden overlays 5-10 mm thick.
5. Cover the fiberboard from above the frame.
6. Paste foam over the structure (do not forget to leave an allowance of 0.5 cm).
7. Pull all this over with fabric (cut allowances should be at least 5 cm on each side).
8. Make sidewalls.
9. Drill bolt holes in the inner sides.
10. Paste them with foam.
11. Install the sidewalls, fixing the corners with self-tapping screws.
12. Sheathe the frame from above with fiberboard sheets.

Soft parts

First you need to make separate frames of all three parts from fiberboard:

1. Lay the back and front back frames side by side.
2. Screw the bars on the adjacent bars on the inside near the corners - it is better to do this with self-tapping screws.
3. Mark and drill the landing holes - loops will be placed in them.
4. Glue the fiberboard sheets with foam - its thickness is about 10 mm, but you can take thinner sheets by gluing them in several layers.
5. Mark the holes for the transformation mechanism - they are on the sides of the seat and the front of the back.
6. Drill holes.
7. Cover the frames with fabric (can be glued with padding polyester and make covers).

Box and other pleasant things

The box for beds is made of boards:

1. Prepare 4 boards of the same thickness, the length and width correspond to the dimensions in the drawing.
2. Assemble the box by connecting the boards in the corners of the future box with vertical bars.
3. Measure the diagonals of the box - they should be equal.
4. Fasten the stiffener - it is in the middle.
5. Attach the bottom of the fiberboard (short screws).
6. Screw the wheels in the corners.
7. Mark the holes for the transformation mechanism.
8. Make a front panel - cover it with a cloth and attach it to the front wall of the box.
9. Connect with each other 2 guides along which the wheels will move - this is done using two boards.
10. Check how parallel the guides are.
11. Cover the rear stiffener with fabric.

Important! When the sofa is assembled, the ends of the boards that connect the guides should be in the middle of the bottom of the armrests.

Assembly

Are all the parts ready? Fine! The time has come to assemble a sofa and evaluate the results of their work:

1. Press the back and front of the back against each other.
2. Fasten them with loops.
3. Fix the hinges with screws.
4. Connect the front parts of the back and the seat with the transformation mechanism (it is bolted).
5. Turn the finished soft part upside down.
6. Lay the box on top.
7. Attach the box to the transformation mechanism.
8. To the lower parts of the armrests, fasten the crossbars between the guides with screws.
9. Turn the sofa over while not attaching the armrests.
10. Fold the construction.
11. Roll your creation onto the guides.
12. Bolts that protrude from the armrests, immerse in the back of the back.
13. Attach stiffeners to the rear of the armrests.

Important! You can make triangular lining, which will cover the gap between the back and front of the back.
