Each of us at least once in our life has been faced with the problem of the appearance of paint stains on our clothes. Getting dirty is a simple matter: repairs in an apartment or in a country house, childish pranks, freshly painted benches. All this can cause a spoiled thing, so the question of how to clean paint from clothes quickly and preferably without loss is relevant in our hectic life.

The first rule that you must adhere to is not to let the paint dry. The faster you get rid of the pollution, the more likely it is to disappear without a trace.

Where to begin?
Before removing paint from clothing:
- Be sure to turn the product inside out, as stain removers can strip your clothes of color and appeal.
- Place a towel or paper towel under the front of the product. During the removal process, contamination will be absorbed into the tissue.
- Before applying the solvent to the contaminated area, make sure that the product does not harm the material from which the clothes are made. Try the reaction of the product to the product on the invisible side, and then use it as intended.

How to paint out?
There are many means by which you can solve the problem of how to remove paint from clothing. But for their application you need to know the following facts:
- type of paint itself;
- the type of fabric with which you plan to remove it.
Gouache and watercolor
If contamination from gouache and watercolors is left on your clothes, then you can remove them quite simply, since they easily dissolve in water. To clean this type of paint from clothing, proceed as follows:
- Rinse the damaged area under a stream of cold water or soak in water, adding a little washing powder.
- Wash the product with detergent.
Oil paint
If the stain is left with an oil solution for art, then the solution to the question of how to clean the paint from clothes will be somewhat different. You can use the following tools:
- acetone;
- turpentine;
- refined gasoline;
- kerosene;
- White Spirit;
- alcohol.
The method of application of all these products is the same: apply a little product to a regular cotton wool and gently wipe the area, removing excess paint.
Additional terms:
- Acetone is not suitable for leather products, as well as synthetics and delicate fabrics.
- When using purified gasoline: first wet the problem area with the product, and then treat it with ammonia.
- Ammonia can change the color of the product.
- If oil paint is left on clothing made of wool and cashmere, then alcohol, gasoline, or acetone will not work. In such cases, ordinary sunflower oil should be applied to the “trouble” and any excess paint should be removed with cotton.
Important! Perfectly dissolves kerosene oil pollution paired with baking soda. Wipe the contaminants with these products in turn, and then wash the treated area in hot water using laundry soap. You can replace kerosene with turpentine.
Remove the oil “nuisance” on the nylon or nylon with warm ammonia, applying it to the wrong side. Wash clothing in salted water after handling.
Latex and acrylic paints
If the stain does not have time to dry, then you can remove such paint from clothing in two ways:
- Turn the fabric inside out.
- Wet the contamination with a stream of cold water.
- Use a toothbrush to rub detergent into a contaminated area.
- Wash the product in hot water (if the type of fabric allows).
Important! In the case when it was not possible to obtain a high-quality result, treat the pollution with a stain remover or bleach, and then wash in a washing machine.
For natural silk products, we recommend the following sequence:
- Rub the problem area with laundry soap.
- Heat the denatured alcohol in a water bath.
- Soak a sponge in alcohol and wipe the soapy place with it (continue the process until the paint completely disappears from the clothes).
- Use a cotton swab dipped in warm water to remove any residue and soap.
- Dry thoroughly with a tissue.
- Sprinkle with talcum powder.
Important! Depending on which particular situation caused the dirty clothes, the following tips may also come in handy:
Woolen cloth should be cleaned this way:
- Rub the contaminated area with laundry soap.
- Immerse the treated area in very hot water for a few seconds.
- Repeat the procedure until the stain is completely dissolved in water.
- Wash clothes in the usual way.
Important! All these methods effectively help to solve the problem of how to clean the paint from clothes, and for this you do not have to run to the store for modern household chemicals.
Aniline paints
To get rid of aniline paint, you will need the following tools:
- potassium permanganate;
- oxalic acid (2% solution);
- denatured alcohol.
Instructions for use to wipe off the paint:
- Prepare a 10% solution of potassium permanganate: Dissolve 1 g of potassium permanganate in 100 ml of warm water.
- Prepare a solution of oxalic acid by dissolving 2 g of the substance in 100 ml of warm water.
- Moisten contamination with denatured alcohol.
- Apply a solution of potassium permanganate and leave for a few minutes.
- Moisten the stained area with oxalic acid solution.
- Wash the product in warm water.
Silicate paint
Silicate solutions are easily removed with vinegar:
- Treat the dirt with a toothbrush dipped in table vinegar.
- Wash contaminated area in warm water with laundry soap.
- Rinse the processed material.
How to remove paint from clothing if the stain is dry?
If you missed the moment and the paint got into the fabric structure, then you will need to put a lot more effort, and the result may be far from what you want.
The principle of your actions to wipe off the paint in such a situation will be as follows:
- First of all, use a sharp object (knife or razor) to remove the dried crust of the substance so as not to harm the structure of the tissue.
- Dampen a cotton swab with a product, depending on the fabric: it may be alcohol, gasoline, oil or another product (see above).
- Put the prepared product on the contamination and leave it for a while (the paint should dissolve).
- Remove excess with a cotton swab or sponge.
Important! Since the paint removal procedure can be lengthy, change the cotton wool often. Do not rub the paint into the fabric, but remove it.
- Treat the spot where there was a stain with a strong soda solution.
- Rinse the item well in warm running water.
- Wash clothes in the usual way.
- Dry the product in the fresh air so that the smell of products disappears.
to contents ↑Important! The products used to remove stains are flammable (the exception is sunflower oil), so do not use them near open flames and keep them away from children.When working, follow safety precautions: protect your skin and eyes, and ventilate the room well.
Helpful hints:
- You can remove any stains on white clothing with aviation gasoline and white clay. Mix them in equal proportions, and apply the resulting porridge to the contaminated area of clothing. Leave the product for 2-3 hours, then remove the powder with a clothes brush.
- To clean any type of paint from cotton clothes, use soap and a boiling solution, the recipe of which can be found below. Immerse contaminated places in boiling liquid for about 10 seconds several times, until the “troubles" disappear completely. To prepare the solution, use 1 liter of water, 1 tsp. soda and 1 piece of laundry soap grated into small chips.
- Hair dye is practically impossible to remove, therefore, we recommend using the applique to cover the stained area.
