The pattern for the tulip skirt can be built on the basis of a straight skirt. It is so simple that even a novice seamstress can sew a tulip skirt with her own hands.

Preparatory stage

To build a template for the product, you first need to make a pattern of a regular straight skirt. Before you sew a tulip skirt with your own hands, make the following measurements:

• Waist circumference.
• Hip girth.
• Length of the product.
• The distance from the hips to the waist.

Important! It is best to draw a pattern with a marker on a sheet of wallpaper left over from repairs or a piece of construction film. The lines from a permanent marker are clearly visible, it is convenient to work with it.

Operating procedure:

1. The beginning of the pattern is a right angle. One ray of the angle (vertical) is the length of the product, the other (horizontal) is the half circumference of the hips.
2. Put the vertical measure “distance from the line of the hips to the waist”. The upper border indicates the waist line, the lower - the line of the hips.
3. To get a skirt with a good fit, you need tug tucks. Calculate the difference between the circumference of the hips and waist and distribute the obtained size of the tuck, and the depth of each of the tucks does not exceed 15 mm. The distance of the tip of the tucks from the line of the hips is 50 mm.

Important! When transferring patterns to fabric, you need to consider allowances for seams - about 25 mm in total.

• Since the style is such that the skirt is narrowed down, mow the side seams by about 50-70 mm.
• Cut out the patterns and draw in vertical stripes. The first strip is 25 mm from the fold line of the shelf, and the rest are 50 mm apart.

Important! This value is not constant. It can be changed depending on what folds you want to make along the waistline. In the classic “tulip” folds are directed strictly vertically, but you can also experiment with a slope.

• Cut the workpieces in vertical lines, not reaching 5 mm to the bottom. Spread the pattern elements at a distance equal to the width of the stripes and fasten with tape.

Important! If you planned a skirt with pockets, make them welt go oblique side. Perform burlap deep enough so that the pocket is not a decorative element.

• Now it remains only to transfer the pattern to the fabric, not forgetting the seam allowances.
• Sew the panels.
• Cut and sew the strip for the waistband.
