Whatever form or model your corset may be, remember that it should fit and fit your physique, it is beneficial to emphasize all the advantages and hide possible disadvantages. To properly build patterns and organize the sewing process, you should correctly take the following measurements:
- Chest circumference.
- Waist circumference.
- Hip girth.
- Additionally, record the distance from the waistline to the point under the chest, from the waistline to the bottom along the side seam, from the waistline to the lower abdomen.
Options for constructing patterns
In the clothing industry, there are two options for constructing a drawing of clothes:
- Estimated. An old and proven way to build patterns, which involves taking certain measurements for each selected model.
- Fake Construction takes 10-20 minutes - in such a short period of time, all measurements take place more accurately in compliance with all the features of the human constitution. To build a drawing in a fake way, the fabric is imposed on a person or mannequin.
A fake way to build a corset pattern
Modern seamstresses and tailors are less and less using design with a drawing. Now more popular is the method of tattoos or fake. As we said above, it takes less time, and the accuracy of measurements is much higher.
To make a pattern, you should prepare:
- dummy;
- special disappearing felt-tip pen;
- pieces of polyethylene measuring 20 by 45 cm.
Important! The number of strips of cellophane corresponds to the number of parts of the future corset.
The sequence of constructing patterns:
- On a mannequin, mark the line under the chest, the chest and waist lines, as well as the additional line of the abdomen. To do this, tie the laces or elastic bands horizontally on the mannequin.
- Draw lines along the tied shoelaces with a special marker, and then remove the threads from the mannequin.
- Next, mark the side seams and the center of the front and back parts, and also draw all the reliefs of the future corset.
Important! Since the details are cut out by folding the fabric in half, measurements should be taken from one half of the mannequin.
- Take one piece of cellophane and attach to the front of the mannequin, transfer the ballpoint line from the fold to the relief.
- Then translate the side parts, the back parts. When all the lines will be transferred to cellophane strips, check their correctness and evenness of application, add allowances for the seams.
As a result - you should get the details of the pattern, only on cellophane.
to contents ↑Estimated way to build patterns
Before you sew a corset for a wedding dress, be sure to take measurements from the customer and design a pattern in any sewing workshop. Sometimes professional seamstresses use a new method, which we mentioned above, but many old-fashionedly trust the construction of a drawing on paper.
The sequence of drawing construction:
- As a basis, take the simplest pattern for a dress or draw a rectangular grid and apply on it measurements taken in advance of the waist, chest and hips.
- Then, on the main pattern, apply all the reliefs and make a pattern.
Important! Before drawing lines on the fabric, be sure to add allowances for the seams 2-3 cm.
- After the pattern is prepared, it's time to transfer all the lines to the fabric. Place the piece so that the central section of the back is parallel to the shared thread of the fabric, and the alignment point of the details on the waist line is parallel to the weft thread.
Important! This arrangement of the patterns will not allow the finished product to stretch during socks.
- The right and left sides of the corset are identical, so when cutting the fabric, fold it in half. If you have a lining of the same fabric, then fold it four times, be sure to align the hem.
Now you can start cutting the fabric.
to contents ↑Important! So that the fabric sits, soak it in warm water before sewing. To understand where is which part, number them.
How to sew a corset for a dress?
- Sew the main fabric over the side seams. Do the same with the lining.
- Cut the received allowances for the seams at an equal distance from each other with scissors, without reaching the stitch of 2-3 mm, smooth them in different directions with an iron.
Important! This procedure is necessary so that wrinkles do not form on the bends.
- Now it's time to grind the lining and the main fabric. To do this, fold the parts facing inward, grind one side seam and iron allowances on one side, the second side seam - on the contrary, iron it.
- Turn the product to the front side and smooth the seams through a thin cloth or gauze.
- Then, from each seam on the main and lining fabric, make two vertical stitches for the bones.
- Stitch the drawstring on the side seams, tuck in the bones in them.
Important! Make sure that the seams on both parts are approximately at the same level. For a more accurate match of the seams, start the finishing seams for the bones from the center of the side seam, and then to the side of it.
- Combine the main and lining fabrics at the maximum level, for additional fixation you can sweep them with a thread.
- Carefully, slowly, lay the finishing stitch as close to the main stitch as possible, following some distance from it.
- Do the same on the other side of the seam - you get grooves for the bones.
Important! To correctly position the bone, the width of the groove should be 1.5-2 times the width of the bone.
- Once all the bone channels are ready, trim the lower and upper edges of the product with scissors.
Processing the upper edge of the corset
First of all, at this stage you have to decide in what way you want to process the edges of the thing. There are several ways to finish: the edge can be treated with special braid or edging, which are sold in the store, or make a regular flat edge.
In the case of the latter option, at the stage of stitching the main fabric with a lining, the parts are sewn from above and below, while leaving a non-stitched place to turn the product. After that, on the front side as close to the edge as possible, make another line and build up an open space from the bottom. In our article we will tell you how to process the edge of the corset with lining fabric.
Finishing sequence:
- Put the lining fabric on a flat surface, straighten the corset on top and circle the upper part with chalk, soap or a marker.
- At a short distance along the product, measure 4 cm down from the cut of the lining, connect the dots in a line and cut the part.
Important! You should get a segment 4 cm wide, along the lines completely repeating the top of your corset.
- In the same way, cut the trim for the bottom of the product.
- If the model provides straps, prepare them until the processing of the upper edge.
Important! For proper processing, the width of the workpiece for straps should be 4 times greater than the desired width of the finished straps.
- Cut the required width and length of the straps from the main fabric, fold the edges inside out so that they are in contact, iron, then fold them in half and sew a vertical line on both sides.
- On the front side of the corset, vertically lay the straps, align the slices, put on top the edging, turned with the wrong side up, sew the stitch close to the edge.
Important! To prevent the straps from shifting during the stitching process, fasten them with pins.
- Unscrew the edging fabric, allow the stock up and lay another line along the edging at a distance of 0.1 mm.
- Turn the edging on the wrong side of the product and iron it.
Processing the lower edge of the corset:
- Before stitching the bottom of the product, insert the bones into the prepared channels. There are 4 layers of fabric in each of the pit holes (core, lining and seam allowances). Bones can be placed in the middle or between the lower layers of tissue.
Important! If the main fabric is made of thin material, insert the bones between the lining fabric.
- To trim the bottom edge, prepare the trim in the same way as for the top edge.
- Lay the piping face in and stitch the edge.
Important! When working on the sewing machine, carefully work in places where the bones are located so as not to break the needle.
- Repeat the same steps as for finishing the top edge.
- From the wrong side, sew hem to the lining with hidden stitches so that it does not turn away.
How to make a clasp?
- If the corset closure will consist of lacing, mark out the eyelets on the halves of the product. Qualitatively make holes in the fabric will help a special sewing tool punch.
- Mark the eyelets along the entire length of the product.
Important! The standard distance between the loops is 2.5 cm.
- Punch holes and install eyelets.
- Measure out the required length of the straps, cut off the excess, attach the ends on the wrong side of the top of the product, at a small distance from the eyelets and sew.
- At the end, grind the corset with the main dress, decorate it with beads, rhinestones or stones.
