How to assemble a box for a subwoofer?
Many people like to listen to music with good bass, which literally rumble and flood all the air in the house. It is in this quality that energetic music charges positively, and when watching movies with excellent sound design, the picture seems more realistic, and you literally feel yourself at the very epicenter of events. But it’s not at all necessary to go to the cinema for all this or go to a concert of your favorite artist, spending a lot of money. Enough to improve the quality of acoustics at home. This article is about how to assemble a box for a subwoofer yourself. There is no particular difficulty in this work. We need basic skills with carpentry tools and a little patience.

The assembly of the box must be approached responsibly, since the sound quality depends on the quality of the assembly. Before you build a drawing and start making a box, decide on the speakers. For a subwoofer, the best option is the dynamics of imported 10-12 inches.

Here are the most popular subwoofer designs:
- Closed box. This is the simplest option for design and execution. The woofer is located inside a sealed wooden case. However, the efficiency of such a device is the lowest.
- Bandpass 4 orders. The body of this speaker system is divided into separate cameras. One is for the speaker, the other is for the duct. A feature of this type of speaker system is the possibility of limiting the frequencies reproduced by the diffuser.
- The 6th-order bandpass differs from the described system by another chamber and another duct. This is the most difficult type of box for execution, but its efficiency is the highest.
- Phase inverter. This subwoofer is equipped with a special tube integrated in the cabinet. The tube discharges air. This provides additional sound from the back of the speaker. In terms of sound quality and complexity of execution, this is an intermediate option between the bandpass and the closed box.

Of course, if you want to achieve optimum sound quality, a bandpass is preferable. But its creation is preceded by a large number of high-precision calculations. Material Requirements
The box should be made of durable and dense material with a good soundproofing effect. Ideal in this regard, plywood in several layers or particleboard. In addition, these are inexpensive and easy to process materials.
So you will need:
- Multilayer plywood 30 mm thick.
- Woodworking screws - 100 pcs., 50-55 mm.
- Material for sound insulation.
- Screwdriver or drill.
- Electric jigsaw.
- PVA glue.
- "Liquid Nails".
- Terminal block.
- Carpet (about 3.0 m).

We take as a basis a 12-inch speaker:
- The optimal volume of the box for the speaker is 40-50 liters.
- The dimensions of the box are 700x450x260 mm.
How to make a box for a subwoofer correctly - procedure:
- The diameter of the 12-inch speaker is 30 cm. The first thing to do is cut a hole for the speaker.
- The smallest distance from the wall of the subwoofer to the center of the diffuser is 200 mm. Cut a hole with a jigsaw.
- The next step is cutting a hole for the reflex gap with parameters 350x50 mm.
Important! The slot may replace the duct pipe.
- Assemble the bass reflex slot and attach to the front of the speaker system.
- Lubricate the joints with “liquid nails” and fix with self-tapping screws.
Important! Screw the screws as tight as possible. If you leave hollows, then they can become a source of resonant vibrations, and the sound will be damaged.
- After that, collect the side parts of the box, smearing them with “liquid nails” and securing with self-tapping screws.
- Cut a hole for the terminal strip on the back wall.
- Insert the speaker.
The hardest part of the job is over.
Box interior decoration:
- First of all, glue all joints with sealant or epoxy.
- Carefully cut out the noise insulation material and glue the walls from the inside.
Important! For this, PVA glue is quite suitable.
- Cover the box on the outside with a carpet, including the phase inverter slot.
