The key fell off

Did the key cover fall off? The whole repair process consists only in returning the keys to their place. The portable device has small dimensions, so the key fasteners are also minimized. It has small latches and grooves that, when pressed lightly, can come apart.

Put the button in place

Let's get started on restoration work:

1. Inspect the part that has fallen off and the keyboard itself. If you do not see any debris or defects, then the task is issued the simplest.
2. There are two slots and two latches on the key cover. There should have been an elevator with two protrusions and two locks on the keyboard. Take the key, place it in its place and press lightly until it clicks.
3. For quality fixation, it is necessary to first act on the lower part, and then on the upper. If you did everything correctly, then the key will fall into place with comfort.

Space has fallen out

It so happens that the “space”, “Enter” or “Shift” key “escapes” from the keyboard. For such cases, there will be a little more operations. All these keys are equipped with a stabilizer that distributes the pressure evenly. The stabilizer is the most common piece of hard wire, mounted on the inside of the key. This wire has two ends that need to be inserted into special connectors on the keyboard, which are located on both sides of the elevator fasteners. Then the lid is installed in its rightful place, slightly pressed on it in the same order and fixed.

The elevator fell out

Do not forget to disconnect them among themselves.The elevator is usually fastened from a metal part with two holes at the top and one wide at the bottom. Often they are deformed, then before repair they need to be straightened.

Important! If you decide to straighten the mounts, then do not apply a lot of force, as you can bend the entire structure.

If the fasteners are in order, then proceed to the installation of the components:

• There is a hole on the elevator into which a wide eye must be inserted. The part must be corrected and lowered to connect the small ears with the corresponding windows.
• Everything should be installed easily. If the elevator key does not lend itself, then the matter is in the fasteners or in the wrong location. Correct the situation and try again.

The key received a defect

Notebook key repair will be needed only in cases where the keyboard is attached with something solid. The lid from such actions may part with cracks. The simplest method to resolve the issue is to search for a new, identical part. But it’s not always possible to find what you want.

If suddenly the cracks are insignificant and the lid from them does not fall apart, then we take plastic glue in our hands and coat it in such a way as to hold it together. It is necessary to glue very carefully, rubbing evenly the composition over the surface area.

Important! Do not overdo it with glue, as there is a possibility of increasing the size of the key.

There is another sophisticated way - to take the cover from another key of the same keyboard. You can take “~” or another rarely used button. But there is one significant drawback - you have to get used to the new visual layout. Both of these methods help resolve the issue temporarily. It is better to get the same cover.

Breakage

Broken cover, elevator or fasteners? We are in a hurry to upset you - these parts are not repairable. It is worth buying a replacement in a service center or other specialized equipment store.

Important! If you are writing a diploma or doing a large amount of urgent work, then there is no time for such actions, so we have already shared the option using the key that is least used. Entire mounts allow you to put the cover back in place, even if it has cracked apart.

No way to return a broken mount in place. If you decide to use glue, then you will have to change a few more keys. The best option is to start looking for identical counterparts.
